In December 2005 Juan Evo Morales Ayma won the presidential election, the first time in the history of Americas an Indio was chosen to lead his country. Morales, an activist and trade unionist who has sought to bring power to native communities, symbolizes a changing consciousness in a country of diverse landscapes and population groups.
